Filmmaker

Addie Akina Knoll is a high school filmmaker from Park City, Utah. Her debut film, Constellations of the Sea, documents her field research on whale shark populations in the Maldives while working with the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme (MWSRP).

The film was recognized at the 2026 Grand Cine Carnival Maldives and has since received multiple awards and recognit at film festivals across six continents for its exploration of conservation, tourism, and marine science.

Through documentary filmmaking, Addie is interested in exploring how people understand and form relationships with the natural world and how science, culture, and storytelling shape those relationships.
